31 Days of Holiday Tips #13

Tip #13 – Get everyone in the family involved in the planning, and decorating.  Designate someone to be the photographer this year.  They are in charge of capturing the preparation times as well as the big moments of the season.  When all is  said and done, journal your holiday.  You will be so glad you did!  As time passes, it is so nice to look back.  You will surprised at how much you will appreciate having the activities and the names of the people who shared your holiday in writing! www.OrganizedTime.com

31 Days of Holiday Tips #12

Tip #12 – All this doing!  Make sure that you have some fun time and some down time, too!  Gather your favorite Christmas movies, put them in a basket by the television and schedule a movie and popcorn night with hot chocolate or cider.

Note:  Since it is still October, find out when the Peanuts ® Special will be aired and plan some family time with popcorn and cider. Make a memory! www.OrganizedTime.com

31 Days of Holiday Tips #11

Tip #11 – All these tips to help you with the holidays, however, we still have daily living!  Establish a time during the weekend to have a ‘family huddle’ which will only take about 20 minutes. This is to keep the lines of communication open with each member of the family to know where they will be, what they need and everyone knows what is going on in the family.  This helps preparation for meals, projects, and after school activities to go so much smoother.  www.OrganizedTime.com

31 Days of Holiday Tips #10

Before leaving a room, your desk, or your chair in a restaurant, turn around and check to make sure you have everything you need.  Many times, I have spotted my jacket draped on the back of a chair, and one time, I left my purse!  This may also help you to see you grocery list and cell phone still on the kitchen counter!   One glance can save time and eliminate stress!

31 Days of Holiday Tips #9

Before going to the grocery store, clear off the kitchen counter, make ready for incoming groceries, as well as clearing (and checking) in the pantry and refrigerator.  A last look to make sure you have the spices and ingredients that are needed before heading out to do shopping.  The same can be done in your closet, clear a space to be ready for the clothes from the cleaners.  One last look, check the laundry room and bathrooms, are you running low on detergent or TP??  Remember you reusable bags!!

31 Days of Holiday Tips #8

Have you tried on the clothes you may want to wear to a special party?  Now is the time to take a look, see if it still fits, there may be a ‘mystery spot’ on your favorite blouse.  Waiting to the last minute can lead to less than a happy ending!  Take it to the cleaners or wash and press it now, you will will be ahead of the game and so glad you did!  Have a mini dress rehearsal to make sure everything works together.

31 Days of Holiday Tips #7

Tip #7 – Have you made your appointments for hair, nails, massage, dog grooming, baby sitters?  Sit down with your family and look at the calendar.  Who has parties to attend?  When are they, are there any parties that may conflict with the use of the car?  What will you need to take to the party?  A dish, gift, hostess gift?  Plan ahead, make arrangements, plan on what you will take.  If you want to take a plant, you can get that the day before, if you want to take a bottle of wine, you can get that now.  Planning ahead saves time which eliminates stress…where have you read that before?  It’s true!!!

31 Days of Holiday Tips #6

Tip #6 – Before decorating your home, clear counter tops by establishing a place for keys, sunglasses and purses (a basket on the kitchen counter may work for you, beware that other items aren’t parked in this basket, you don’t want it to become a ‘catch-all’)  If the basket isn’t a solution for you, try  3-M ® Command Hooks (they are removable) on the end of a cabinet for your keys.  Most store carry a wide variety of these products which may offer a solution for cables, hanging pictures or lights. They come in a variety of sizes and colors.

31 Days of Holiday Tips #5

Tips #5 – Do you have teenagers and grown children?  If so, you can sent them a ‘fill-in-the-blank-Dear Santa-type letter to find out what they are wanting for Christmas / Hanukkah.  If you would like a copy of the letter I use, email me, Marla@OrganizedTime.com with Dear Santa letter in the subject line.  This helps save time with shopping and will eliminate that look of ‘what was she thinking?’ when they open their gifts.

31 Days of Holiday Tips #4

Tip #4 – Have you decided on your holiday menus?  What items can you begin stocking up on now, little by little?  This helps to beat the last minute rush of cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, cool whip, whatever spices you need, and other favorite items your family loves.  By buying those items a little at a time will help with your budget and help you to be prepared early!  Getting ahead and having a plan saves time and eliminates stress!
